While the presidential candidates are traveling America to get votes, Grammy winner and Oscar and Emmy nominee Queen Latifah and Lifetime are criss-crossing the nation to highlight the issues most important to women this campaign season and encourage women to go to the polls.

Kicking off in January and airing on Lifetime until Election Day on November 4, Queen Latifah is recording the spots during her "The Trav'lin' Light Concert Tour" and asking women to complete the sentence, "If I Were President, I would ...." Designed to draw attention to issues of significance to women, that are often lost in the frenzy of campaign coverage, the spots will also air as broadband vignettes on myLifetime.com.

"Women have a lot to say about the issues they want addressed in the presidential campaign. I am excited to join forces with Lifetime Networks to use my tour to get their voices heard. It doesn't matter what party the women I talk to are affiliated with; we just want to make sure that women, 52 percent of the population, get the opportunity to get their point across because they are shaping our country's future," said Queen Latifah.

Along with the interviews conducted by Queen Latifah, Lifetime will interview celebrities, political candidates, thought leaders, viewers and visitors at myLifetime.com with the goal of collecting one million responses on-camera, online and on postcards at grassroots events throughout the year. The answers will be shared with the presidential candidates, nonprofit organizations, and the media, and ultimately will be delivered to the newly elected leaders in the White House and the Capitol in January 2009.

First launched in 1992 and now entering its fifth presidential election cycle -- and conducted with a coalition of media and hundreds of leading women's advocacy organizations, representing tens of millions of women -- Every Woman Counts is the only public service campaign dedicated to encouraging women to speak out on the issues they care about most, vote and run for office.

"This is an unprecedented election in so many ways, and in a recent Lifetime Every Woman Counts poll, 25 percent of women told us that this is the most important election ever. With the poll also showing that roughly 80 percent of women are still not committed to a candidate, there is a real opportunity to draw attention to women's priorities and concerns," said Meredith Wagner, Executive Vice President, Public Affairs, Lifetime Networks. "We are thrilled to join forces with the incredible Queen Latifah to do that and we hope the candidates will appear on Lifetime next spring to talk to women about issues they care about most."

For the first time, the 2008 Every Woman Counts initiative will leverage the power of the #1 and #2 television networks' for women -- Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) -- and include the most extensive on-air programming, digital content and grassroots efforts to date. To expand the effort and reach women everywhere they live, work and play, Lifetime launched the first-ever Every Woman Counts coalition in partnership with REDBOOK, CosmoGIRL!, Marie Claire, celebrities, experts and joining every leading women's nonprofit organization.
